બારમી ઓક્ટોબરની વહેલી સવારે સૂરજને સૂતો મેલી એક બાળકીએ કિકિયારી પાડી ત્યારે હોસ્પિટલમાં હાજર કોઈને ખયાલ ન હતો કે એ બાળકી મોટી થઈને નવલકથા લખશે અને એના જન્મની ઘટનાનો અહીં આ રીતે ઉલ્લેખ કરશે.
બાળકીના જન્મ પછી વાત આવી એનું નામ પાડવાની. મમ્મીએ નામ રાખ્યું ‘નિયતિ' અને પપ્પાએ નક્કી કર્યું ‘નિયતી’. નિયતિ એટલે ભાગ્યની દેવી જ્યારે કે નિયતી એટલે મા દુર્ગાનું એક સ્વરૂપ. પપ્પાનું કહેવું હતું કે મારી દીકરી ભાગ્યના ભરોસે બેસી રહેનાર નહીં બને. એ એનું જીવન એની મરજીથી એની શરતો પર જીવશે. આજે એ બાળકી નિયતી વયસ્ક બની ‘નિર્ઝર’ ઉપનામ સાથે ટૂંકી વાર્તાઓ અને નવલકથાઓ લખે છે.

Her mother chose "Niyati-નિયતિ" meaning the Goddess of Destiny, while her father preferred "Niyati–નિયતી" (pronounced slightly differently in Gujarati), referring to a form of Goddess Durga. His belief was simple: My daughter will not be someone who merely waits for destiny to shape her life. She will live on her own terms and make her own choices. Today, that little girl has grown into Niyati Kapadia, who writes short stories and novels under the pen name "Nirjhar."

હું માનું છું કે કોઈપણ વાર્તાની સાચી શક્તિ તેની લાગણીસભર પ્રામાણિકતામાં રહેલી હોય છે. મારા પાત્રો સંપૂર્ણ નથી, કારણ કે પૂર્ણતા ન તો રસપ્રદ છે અને ન તો જીવનની વાસ્તવિકતા. હું એવી સાહિત્યિક કૃતિઓ સર્જવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરું છું, જેમાં વાચકો પોતાની જીત અને પોતાની પીડાના પ્રતિબિંબને સૌમ્યતા અને સહાનુભૂતિ સાથે જોઈ શકે.
